World Of Seashells
About This Museum
I had no idea a seashell could weigh over 600 pounds until I stood next to the Australian Trumpet Shell at the World of Seashells. Tucked away on the Coastal Road in Bel Ombre, this place is an absolute treasure chest from the ocean. You wander from room to room, completely surrounded by an explosion of shapes and colors, from tiny, jewel-like cowries to massive, alien-looking clams. It’s a quiet, almost meditative experience that completely redefines your appreciation for the beach.
Collection Highlights
The giant clam shells are a showstopper, big enough to bathe a baby in, while delicate nautilus shells reveal their perfect mathematical spirals. One of the most fascinating displays showcases 'left-handed' shells, which are bizarrely rare in nature.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find right on the main coastal road—just look for the charming, plantation-style building. It's a perfect, affordable stop to break up a day of exploring the south coast, especially if you need a break from the sun.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a lovely, airy Creole-style building with a wide veranda and wooden shutters; it feels more like visiting a charming island home than a formal museum.
