About This Museum

Believe it or not, the most revered site in Phayao isn't on land at all, but perched serenely on a tiny islet in the middle of Kwan Phayao Lake. To reach Wat Tilokaram, you must take a short, peaceful boat ride, which makes the journey feel like a pilgrimage in itself. The temple complex greets you with a sense of timeless calm, centered around its magnificent golden Buddha statue that seems to watch over the entire lake. It’s a place where spirituality and the natural landscape are beautifully intertwined.

Collection Highlights

The star of the show is undoubtedly the majestic Lai Thong Buddha image, a gleaming golden figure that radiates tranquility. The surrounding grounds also hold smaller shrines and religious artifacts that devotees have left as offerings over the years.

Visitor Information

You'll need to catch a boat from the pier on the lake's edge; the ride is quick and part of the whole experience. Dress respectfully as it's an active place of worship, and try to visit in the late afternoon when the setting sun lights up the golden Buddha.

Architecture & Building

The main sanctuary is a classic Lanna-style pavilion with multi-tiered roofs, but its most striking feature is its location—built right on the water, creating a stunning reflection.
