Vlaams Tram- en Autobusmuseum
About This Museum
People often wander into our museum on the Diksmuidelaan looking for a specific old tram they remember from their childhood, or simply to show their kids how we used to get around. It's not a silent, dusty hall; it's a lively depot where the history of Flemish public transport feels ready to roll out onto the streets again. You can walk right up to a magnificent, pre-war Antwerp tram, its polished wood and gleaming brass telling stories of a bygone era, and then turn around to see the bright orange buses that defined the 1970s. It’s this tangible connection to daily life, past and present, that leaves everyone with a smile. You come away feeling like you've touched a piece of living history, not just looked at exhibits.
Collection Highlights
The stars of the collection are the impeccably restored horse-drawn tram from 1877 and the iconic 'Bolramer' bus, that curious-looking vehicle that bounced along Belgian roads for decades.
Visitor Information
We're tucked away in the Antwerp district of Berchem, easy to reach by—what else?—tram line 4. It's best to check our website for open days as we're run by passionate volunteers.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in a classic, no-nonsense brick tram depot from the interwar period, all functional industrial charm with its vast hall and high windows that let the light dance on the old vehicles.
