TISSAGE TODRA
About This Museum
Tucked away in the dusty, rose-colored streets of Tinghir, Tissage Todra is a real gem. I stumbled upon it almost by accident, drawn in by the rhythmic clacking of wooden looms from the doorway. It feels less like a sterile museum and more like stepping into the living, breathing heart of Berber craftsmanship. You can literally watch artisans transform raw, local wool into those incredibly intricate rugs and textiles you see all over Morocco. The air is thick with the smell of wool and natural dyes, making the whole experience wonderfully immersive.
Collection Highlights
The real stars are the working looms where you see rugs being born, but don't miss the displays of antique weaving tools and the stunning collection of traditional Amazigh (Berber) carpets, each with its own symbolic patterns and stories.
Visitor Information
It's easy to find in central Tinghir—just listen for the looms! The weavers are genuinely friendly and happy to explain their craft, though it's a good idea to have some small cash on hand if you fall in love with a piece.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a traditional, unassuming mudbrick building that blends perfectly into its surroundings, with thick walls that keep the interior cool and peaceful.
