Thüringer Kloßmuseum Heichelheim
About This Museum
Now, you might not think a museum dedicated to the humble Thuringian potato dumpling would be all that captivating, but let me tell you, our little Kloßmuseum is a true gem. It's the only one of its kind in the world, celebrating the very heart of our regional cuisine and culture. We've gathered everything from historic potato graters and rustic cooking pots to old family recipes scribbled in spidery handwriting. You'll leave with a whole new appreciation for what it takes to make the perfect 'Thüringer Kloß' and probably a bit of a craving, too.
Collection Highlights
The star is undoubtedly our collection of over 150 potato graters, some looking more like medieval torture devices than kitchen tools. Don't miss the recreated 19th-century farm kitchen, complete with a massive 'Kloßhobel', or the display tracing how this simple dish became a Thuringian icon.
Visitor Information
It's best to call ahead if you're making a special trip, as our opening hours can be seasonal. And if your visit works up an appetite, just ask us for directions to a good local Gasthaus—we know all the spots that serve the real deal right around the corner.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a traditional Thuringian half-timbered house with whitewashed walls and a steeply pitched roof, it feels less like a museum and more like stepping right into a local grandmother's home.
