About This Museum
Tucked away in Jdeideh, 'Les Merveilles de la Mer' was a true hidden gem for anyone fascinated by the deep blue. It felt less like a formal institution and more like walking into the private cabinet of curiosities belonging to a deeply passionate sea captain. The air was cool and carried that distinct, briny scent of the ocean, which made you feel miles away from the city streets outside. I remember being completely captivated by the intricate displays of marine life and maritime history, all presented with a tangible sense of wonder.
Collection Highlights
The centerpiece was a breathtaking, floor-to-ceiling coral reef diorama, teeming with life-sized models of tropical fish that looked almost real. You could also find beautifully preserved specimens of bizarre deep-sea creatures and an entire wall dedicated to the art of antique pearl diving.
Visitor Information
It's with a heavy heart I have to share that this wonderful place has permanently closed its doors. It's a real loss for Lebanon's cultural scene.
Architecture & Building
Housed in an unassuming modern building, its true character was revealed inside through dim, atmospheric lighting and winding pathways that mimicked exploring an underwater grotto.
