Studio Moretti Caselli
About This Museum
Everyone comes to Perugia for the views and the chocolate, but I found a hidden gem that absolutely stole my heart: the Studio Moretti Caselli. This isn't your typical quiet museum; it's a living, breathing workshop where you can watch artisans practice the centuries-old craft of stained-glass making. The air smells faintly of lead and hot glass, and sunlight streams through incredible finished panels, casting rainbows on the ancient stone floor. It feels less like a museum and more like stepping directly into a family's creative legacy that has spanned five generations.
Collection Highlights
The real highlight is watching an artist at work at one of the original furnaces, but don't miss the intricate 'Cappella dei Priori' window they restored or Francesco Moretti's stunning portrait of his daughter, made entirely of glass.
Visitor Information
You definitely need to book a tour in advanceβit's the only way to get in. Our guide was incredibly passionate, explaining everything from cartoon sketches to the specific tools used for cutting and leading.
Architecture & Building
Tucked away on a quiet street, the studio is housed in an unassuming 15th-century palazzo with thick stone walls and worn wooden beams that have witnessed half a millennium of artistry.
