Southern Fuegian Railway
About This Museum
It's hard to believe this charming little train, nicknamed the 'Train at the End of the World', was once a lifeline for Ushuaia's most notorious prisoners. Today, it's a journey back in time, chugging through peat bogs and alongside the Pipo River with views of the Andes that are simply unreal. The vintage carriages, with their polished wood and cozy warmth from the steam engine, create an atmosphere that’s both nostalgic and wildly adventurous. You're not just a passenger; you're part of a living history story unfolding on a narrow-gauge track through the raw Fuegian landscape.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is undoubtedly the original steam locomotive itself, hissing and chuffing as it pulls its period carriages. Keep an eye out for a re-creation of a Yamana campsite along the route, a quiet nod to the land's original inhabitants long before the prison was built.
Visitor Information
Rides last about an hour and a half and depart several times a day from the End of the World Station just outside Ushuaia. Definitely book ahead in peak season—this is one of Tierra del Fuego's most beloved experiences.
Architecture & Building
The station is built in a rustic, early 20th-century pioneer style with dark wood and corrugated metal roofs that look perfectly at home against the dramatic mountain backdrop.
