Complejo Museológico Explora Salta

About This Museum

Everyone comes to Explora Salta for the famous MAAM and its Inca Children, but this place is so much more than that. It's a sprawling, sun-drenched complex where you can easily lose an entire afternoon wandering between its three distinct museums. I was completely captivated by the sheer beauty of the colonial religious art, with its intricate gold leaf and hauntingly serene portraits of saints. The whole experience feels less like a sterile museum and more like a vibrant journey through the soul of Northern Argentina.

Collection Highlights

The star attraction remains the Llullaillaco Mummies—the ancient Inca Children, whose preservation is both awe-inspiring and deeply moving. Beyond that, don't miss the stunning collection of Andean Baroque art and the fascinating pre-Columbian archaeological artifacts that tell a much older story of this land.

Visitor Information

It's brilliantly located right in the city center at La Florida 20, making it an easy stop on any walking tour. Give yourself at least two to three hours; trust me, you'll need it.

Architecture & Building

Housed in a beautifully restored colonial-era building, think white-washed walls, heavy wooden doors, and tranquil courtyards that offer a quiet escape from the city bustle.
