SNM Múzeum Milana Rastislava Štefánika
About This Museum
Tucked away in the rolling hills of western Slovakia, the Milan Rastislav Štefánik Museum occupies his family's restored homestead in the village of Košariská. Walking through the grounds feels less like a formal museum visit and more like stepping directly into the life of a national hero. You can almost sense his presence in the modest rooms, which are filled with personal artifacts that tell a story far bigger than their humble origins. It’s a deeply personal and surprisingly moving tribute to the man who helped forge a nation.
Collection Highlights
The collection is anchored by Štefánik's personal belongings, including his iconic general's uniform and delicate scientific instruments from his career as an astronomer. Perhaps most poignant are the fragments of the plane in which he tragically died, a sobering reminder of his sudden end.
Visitor Information
While it feels remote, it's an easy day trip from Bratislava. Check the SNM website for current opening hours before you go, as they can vary seasonally.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in a charmingly restored folk-style house, painted a traditional white with deep blue accents, that faithfully recreates the 19th-century rural setting of Štefánik's childhood.
