Rutherford House
About This Museum
People come to Rutherford House not just for a history lesson, but to step right into the elegant world of Alberta's first Premier. You can almost hear the clink of teacups and the rustle of newspapers in the sunlit morning room, which feels frozen in the 1910s. It’s wild to stand in the original dining room and imagine the political deals and family dinners that happened right there. The whole place has this incredibly warm and lived-in feel, more like a beloved family home than a sterile museum.
Collection Highlights
The real highlight is the house itself, furnished with the Rutherford family's original belongings. You'll see the Premier's personal library, his wife's beautiful piano, and even some of his hats on display.
Visitor Information
It's tucked away on the University of Alberta campus, so it's easy to pair with a stroll through campus. Don't miss stopping by the Arbour Restaurant in the basement for a scone and tea—it’s a charming part of the experience.
Architecture & Building
It's a handsome red-brick mansion with a welcoming front porch, white trim, and a classic, sturdy Edwardian look that just exudes early 20th-century comfort.
