Royal Ontario Museum
About This Museum
Tucked right in the heart of Toronto at the edge of Queen's Park, the Royal Ontario Museum (or ROM, as we locals call it) is an absolute treasure trove. You can easily lose a whole day wandering its sprawling corridors, which are packed with everything from glittering mineral specimens to ancient Egyptian mummies. For me, the real showstoppers are the dinosaur halls—standing beneath the colossal skeleton of a Barosaurus is a genuinely humbling experience. It’s this incredible mix of natural history and human cultures from across the globe that makes every visit feel like a new adventure.
Collection Highlights
The dinosaur fossil collection is legendary, featuring the terrifyingly sharp claws of a Daspletosaurus. Don't miss the Bat Cave for an immersive walk-through or the stunning Gallery of Chinese Architecture for its serene, painted temple walls.
Visitor Information
It's located at 100 Queens Park and is super easy to get to by subway—just hop off at Museum Station. I'd recommend checking their website for timed tickets, especially on weekends when it can get quite busy.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a fascinating mix, starting with its original, grand neo-Byzantine wings and then exploding into The Crystal, a dramatic addition of sharp-angled glass and aluminum that looks like it landed from the future.
