Reserva Nacional Altos de Lircay
About This Museum
People don't come to Altos de Lircay for artifacts in glass cases; they come for the raw, untamed landscapes that feel like a living, breathing exhibit. We spent our days trekking through ancient forests of towering lenga trees, the air crisp and clean, with the sole goal of reaching those legendary viewpoints. And let me tell you, cresting the ridge at El Enladrillado—that vast, surreal plateau of volcanic rock—to see the Andes sprawled out before you is a moment that absolutely steals your breath. It’s a place that reminds you of nature's immense power and quiet beauty, all at once.
Collection Highlights
The main attractions are all natural wonders: the otherworldly basalt slab plateau of El Enladrillado, the deep blue waters of Laguna del Alto, and the sweeping panoramic views of the Descabezado Grande volcano.
Visitor Information
You'll need to register at the CONAF ranger station at the entrance—it's a straightforward process. There's a well-maintained campground if you want to stay over, and trust me, waking up here is magic. Just remember to pack for all seasons; the weather here can change in an instant.
Architecture & Building
Forget buildings; your shelter is the canopy of coigüe and hualo trees. The only structures are simple wooden trail markers and rustic campsites nestled perfectly into the landscape.
