Railway Museum in Kościerzyna
About This Museum
Would you believe there's a place where you can actually climb into the cab of a massive, Cold War-era Soviet tank engine? That's just one of the surprises at the Railway Museum in Kościerzyna. It feels less like a formal museum and more like a bustling train yard frozen in time, filled with the ghosts of steam and steel. You can wander right up to these incredible machines, from elegant pre-war passenger locomotives to hulking freight giants. The sheer size and presence of these iron workhorses is just breathtaking.
Collection Highlights
The star is definitely that intimidating Soviet TU2-137 diesel locomotive you can get up close with. Don't miss the beautiful 'Piękna Helena' (Beautiful Helen), a pristine Polish steam engine from 1937, or the quirky little SN61 diesel shunter that looks like it's straight out of a cartoon.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find—just head to Towarowa 7 in Kościerzyna, which is basically right next to the active train station. You can easily combine it with a real train trip!
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in a charming old red-brick roundhouse, the kind of building where trains were once repaired and kept overnight, so it feels completely authentic.
