About This Museum

People flock to Ptuj for its famous Kurentovanje carnival, but honestly, the castle that watches over it all from a hilltop is the town's real crown jewel. Wandering up the path, you're immediately struck by the sheer presence of this 12th-century fortress, its walls holding centuries of stories. Inside, it feels less like a sterile museum and more like a time capsule filled with everything from suits of armor that make you stand up straighter to beautifully painted Renaissance furniture. The real showstopper, though, is stepping out onto the ramparts for a breathtaking panoramic view of the red-roofed old town and the Drava River winding through the landscape.

Collection Highlights

You'll find an incredible array of historical weapons that feel ready for a battle, along with delicate Renaissance chests painted with vivid scenes. Don't miss the hauntingly beautiful medieval sacral art or the room full of traditional Slovenian instruments.
