Prang Khaek

About This Museum

Everyone comes to Lop Buri for the monkeys, but you stay for moments of pure quiet like this. Prang Khaek isn't so much a museum as it is a trio of ancient, weathered brick towers standing resiliently in the middle of a bustling roundabout. Dating back to the 11th century, it's considered the oldest Khmer-style sanctuary in the city. You can walk right up and run your hand over the warm bricks, feeling centuries of history with no crowds to fight. It’s a small, powerful reminder of the deep roots that lie just beneath Thailand's modern surface.

Collection Highlights

The main 'exhibit' is the architecture itself—three elegant prangs (towers) dedicated to Hindu gods. While the original lintels and statues are now in museums, you can still see the remnants of stucco decoration clinging to the brickwork.

Visitor Information

It's completely free and open all day, nestled in a traffic circle, so just be careful crossing the street! Early morning or late afternoon light makes the bricks glow beautifully.

Architecture & Building

This is classic early Khmer architecture—three slender brick towers built laterite and brick, representing a simpler, more robust style that predates the grandeur of Angkor Wat.
