Port of Essaouira Sqala
About This Museum
People come to the Sqala for that first breathtaking glimpse of the Atlantic, but they stay for the history that seeps from its ramparts. It's a place where you can walk along the ancient, cannon-lined battlements and feel the sea spray on your face, listening to the echoes of a time when this fort protected the city from naval attacks. Down below, the working port thrums with life, a chaotic symphony of blue fishing boats and circling gulls. You leave feeling like you've walked through a living postcard, one where past and present collide in the most beautiful way.
Collection Highlights
The star attractions are undoubtedly the rows of original, beautifully preserved bronze cannons, each one looking out to sea as if still on guard. The real show, however, is watching local fishermen mend their vibrant blue nets right below you.
Visitor Information
It's incredibly easy to find—just head towards the sea from the medina. A small fee gets you in, and it's worth every dirham for the views alone; try to go in the late afternoon when the light is pure magic.
