Pharmacy Museum of the University of Basel
About This Museum
Stepping into the Pharmacy Museum feels like entering a hidden chapter of history, tucked away on a narrow Basel street. It all started back in the 1920s when the university decided to preserve these incredible artifacts, and now you can wander through rooms filled with the tools of ancient apothecaries and alchemists. I was completely captivated by the beautiful old mortars and pestles, intricate glass vessels, and even some mysterious-looking alchemy equipment—you can almost picture someone trying to create an elixir of life. The whole place has this wonderfully quiet, almost reverent atmosphere that makes you slow down and really look at everything.
Collection Highlights
The collection is amazing—you'll see gorgeous ceramic drug jars, delicate scales for measuring precious ingredients, and a full old-world pharmacy counter. The alchemy corner is particularly fascinating with its strange flasks and manuscripts.
