Palaeontological Research and Education Centre
About This Museum
Tucked away in the rural landscapes of Maha Sarakham, this centre feels less like a formal museum and more like a direct portal to an ancient world. It’s a place where the scientific process of discovery is laid bare, with fossils often being prepared right in front of you. The main hall is dominated by the staggering sight of immense sauropod skeletons, their long necks curving towards the ceiling. You get a real sense of the ground shifting under your feet, both literally and figuratively, as you walk among these giants.
Collection Highlights
The undeniable stars are the complete skeletons of Phuwiangosaurus sirindhornae, gentle giants that once roamed the Isan region. Beyond the dinosaurs, intricate displays reveal petrified forests and the delicate, fossilized shells of prehistoric turtles, telling a more complete story of Thailand's deep past.
Visitor Information
It's a wonderfully unpretentious spot—you can easily spend an hour or two marveling at the fossils without any crowd pressure. Just double-check opening times before you head out, as it has the relaxed vibe of a working research facility.
