Old Vine Museum
About This Museum
Tucked away on a quiet street in Maribor, this isn't your typical grand museum—it's the proud home of the world's oldest living vine. You're not just looking at dusty artifacts; you're visiting a 400-year-old celebrity plant that still produces wine each year. The whole experience feels more like a personal introduction to a local legend than a formal exhibition. It’s a wonderfully intimate and surprising little spot.
Collection Highlights
The star is, of course, the ancient 'Žametovka' vine itself, sprawling over the facade of the house. Inside, you'll find old photographs and tools that tell the story of Slovenia's deep winemaking traditions, along with ceremonial bottles of wine made from its precious annual harvest.
Visitor Information
It's small and easy to fit into an afternoon stroll through Maribor's old town. While you can admire the famous vine from the street for free, popping inside the house gives you the full story and a chance to buy a unique souvenir.
Architecture & Building
The museum is housed in a charming, historic burgher's house with a lovely old-fashioned front, making the ancient vine look perfectly at home climbing up its reddish exterior.
