Nurullaboy Palace
About This Museum
People come to Khiva to walk the ancient, sun-baked streets of Itchan Kala, but they stay for hidden gems like the Nurullaboy Palace. Stepping inside feels like entering a different world, a private oasis of cool, shaded courtyards and intricate tilework far from the tourist bustle. I was completely captivated by the soaring, painted wooden ceilings in the main reception hall—each panel a masterpiece of color and pattern. It’s a quieter, more intimate look at how Khiva's royalty lived, surrounded by an elegance that feels both grand and surprisingly peaceful.
Collection Highlights
The real highlight is the architecture itself, especially the breathtakingly detailed wood carvings and vibrant paintings on the ceilings. You'll also find beautifully preserved royal quarters that give you a sense of the daily life and opulence enjoyed by the Khan's family.
Visitor Information
It's located just outside the main western gate of Itchan Kala, so it's a perfect little detour when you need a break from the crowds. Just look for its distinctive facade—it’s well worth seeking out.
Architecture & Building
A stunning example of 19th-century Central Asian architecture with classic Khivan features: high, airy ivans (verandas), courtyards designed for shade, and an incredible focus on ornate wood columns and brilliantly painted ceiling beams.
