Natural History & Science Museum of Srilanka
About This Museum
You'd never guess this unassuming building holds a massive, 100-year-old blue whale skeleton right in its entrance hall! Stepping inside feels like walking into a scientist's personal cabinet of curiosities, where every corner reveals something new. The main Natural History section is a wild journey through Sri Lanka's own ecosystems, from the muggy lowland jungles to the cool, misty highlands. Then you turn a corner and the Science wing hits you with hands-on physics experiments and models of traditional technology that are way more fascinating than they sound.
Collection Highlights
The star is definitely that colossal blue whale skeleton greeting you at the door. Don't miss the incredibly detailed dioramas of local wildlife and the exhibits on traditional fishing crafts, which show just how ingenious local methods are.
