Ceylon Tea Museum
About This Museum
You might not expect a world-class museum dedicated to tea to be housed in a creaky, retired factory, but that's exactly the charm of the Ceylon Tea Museum. Perched in the hills above Kandy, it’s a place where the air itself seems steeped in history. You can almost hear the echoes of workers from a bygone era as you wander past antique rollers and dryers, all polished to a shine. It’s less a static display and more a living, breathing tribute to the leaf that built a nation.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is a century-old Marshall steam engine, a hulking piece of Victorian engineering that still works. Upstairs, you'll find an impressive array of vintage tea caddies and an original 19th-century tea taster's bureau, complete with its well-worn copper tasting cups.
Visitor Information
After exploring the machinery, head to the top floor for a proper cuppa at their tasting room—the panoramic views of the Kandy hills are almost as good as the brew.
Architecture & Building
The building is the original Hantana Tea Factory, a rustic multi-story structure of brick and weathered wood that has been thoughtfully preserved rather than perfectly restored.
