National Museum of Antiquities and Islamic Art
About This Museum
Tucked away on a bustling boulevard in the heart of Algiers, this place is a real treasure trove. You walk in and are immediately surrounded by these incredible Roman mosaics so vivid you'd swear they were made yesterday. Then, as you wander further, the atmosphere shifts completely into rooms filled with intricate Islamic calligraphy and delicate ceramics that seem to glow. It’s like taking a condensed journey through centuries of North African history all under one roof.
Collection Highlights
The Roman-era floor mosaics are absolutely stunning, especially one depicting a powerful-looking Neptune. I was also captivated by the collection of ancient gold jewelry and the beautifully preserved medieval Qur'ans with their brilliant illuminations.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find at 177 Boulevard Colonel Krim Belkacem in Alger Centre. Definitely set aside a good two or three hours if you want to see everything without rushing.
Architecture & Building
The building itself feels grand and historic, a stately structure that fits right in with the surrounding government buildings, making the whole visit feel that much more authentic.
