PNG Gouraya
About This Museum
The Gouraya National Park Museum feels less like a traditional institution and more like a living extension of the park itself. It was established to document the incredible biodiversity of this coastal Biosphere Reserve, a place where forested mountains dramatically meet the Mediterranean Sea. Stepping inside, you're immediately immersed in the sights and sounds of this unique environment, from recorded bird calls to detailed dioramas of its hidden wildlife. It’s a must-visit for anyone wanting to truly understand the natural heart of the Béjaïa region before exploring the great outdoors.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the life-sized model of the endangered Barbary macaque, a primate found only in Algeria and Morocco. The museum also features an impressive collection of native bird specimens and a fascinating exhibit on the park's fragile marine ecosystems, complete with preserved species from the seabed.
Visitor Information
It's conveniently located just off the main road into Béjaïa, making it an easy stop. While small, it packs a lot in—plan for about an hour to see everything without rushing.
