Najstarejša trta / World's Oldest Grapevine
About This Museum
Tucked away on the banks of the Drava River in old Maribor, this isn't your typical museum. Its heart isn't a collection of artifacts behind glass, but a living, breathing piece of history—the Old Vine itself, still stubbornly producing grapes after more than 450 winters. The entire city truly revolves around this gnarled, magnificent plant. We don't just preserve it; we celebrate it with an annual festival where its precious harvest is bottled into a rare offering for dignitaries.
Collection Highlights
Of course, the star is the venerable vine of Zametovka, a resilient red wine variety clutching the front of the historic house. Inside, you'll find tools of the vintner's trade, old photographs telling Maribor's story, and beautifully crafted ceremonial barrels used for the vine's precious annual yield.
Visitor Information
Come and stand in its presence; you can almost feel the centuries whisper from its twisted trunk. The house is open for you to pop in and learn its story, and if your timing is right in autumn, you might just catch the lively Old Vine Festival taking over the streets.
Architecture & Building
The vine grows right on the facade of a lovely, well-kept burgher's house painted a soft yellow, a classic example of the traditional Lent district architecture that gives this part of town its unique charm.
