About This Museum
People find their way to our little museum in Ribnica for the story—the real, hands-on story of how this valley lived and worked for centuries. They come expecting a castle, and they get one, but what they remember are the humble, beautiful things: the woodenware that made our town famous across the empire. You can almost smell the pine shavings and hear the old craftsmen in the workshops we've recreated. It’s a quiet place that leaves you with a deep appreciation for the skill and heart of our ancestors.
Collection Highlights
The soul of the collection is the traditional pottery and exquisite woodenware, from simple kitchen bowls to ornately carved distaffs. Don't miss the full-scale replica of a potter's workshop, complete with a massive kick-wheel, or the displays showing how our craftspeople traveled as far as Constantinople to sell their wares.

You'll find us right in the heart of Ribnica at Gallusovo nabrežje 1, tucked within the old castle walls. It's a cozy museum, so you can take your time without needing a whole day.

The museum is housed in Ribnica Castle itself, a building that's been reshaped over the ages from a medieval fortress into the more peaceful, manor-like residence you see today, perched above the river.
