Museum Speelklok
About This Museum
People come to Museum Speelklok expecting a quiet museum, but they leave having been to the happiest party in Utrecht. It's a place filled with the joyful sounds of self-playing musical instruments, from delicate tinkling music boxes to a massive, magnificent fairground organ that practically shakes the room with its brass and percussion. You'll find yourself following a guide who brings these incredible contraptions—clocks, pianolas, and barrel organs—to life with music and stories. It’s impossible not to smile as you wander through the cheerful cacophony.
Collection Highlights
The star is definitely the 'Dansende Jantjes' fairground organ, a towering, beautifully decorated machine that fills the entire hall with festive music. You'll also see intricate musical clocks from wealthy Dutch homes and even get to hear a cheerful street organ play on your tour.
Visitor Information
It's right in the heart of Utrecht's beautiful canal district at Steenweg 6. Make sure you join one of the guided tours—they happen every hour or so—because that's when all the instruments are actually played; it’s a completely different experience than just looking at them.
