Museum of Danish Resistance
About This Museum
You'd never know, walking past the sleek glass cube on Copenhagen's waterfront, that its most powerful stories are told entirely underground. Descending into the earth, you're immediately immersed in the clandestine world of Danish citizens who defied Nazi occupation. The air feels different down here, cool and heavy with history. It’s a deliberately atmospheric journey that relies more on personal artifacts and whispered audio testimonies than grandiose displays.
Collection Highlights
Look for the tiny, hand-cranked printing press used to produce illegal newspapers, its simple mechanics belying its power. One of the most moving exhibits is a collection of ordinary household items—a hairbrush, a loaf of bread—all ingeniously modified to hide secret compartments for transporting messages and weapons.
Visitor Information
It's right by the water at Esplanaden, easy to combine with a stroll along the harbor. Give yourself a good couple of hours; the narrative down there is compelling and deserves your time.
Architecture & Building
A modern, almost stark glass cube that sits lightly on the surface, deliberately contrasting with the dense, subterranean exhibition halls carved out below it.
