M/S Maritime Museum
About This Museum
The M/S Maritime Museum of Denmark pulls off a remarkable feat: it feels both ancient and utterly contemporary, all while being tucked discreetly underground. You don't so much approach its main building as you descend into the dry dock of Kronborg Castle, where history literally surrounds you. Inside, the narrative unfolds through clever exhibits on everything from Denmark's formidable naval power to the global trade routes that shaped its identity. It’s a space that masterfully connects the romance of the sea with the hard realities of commerce and life at sea.
Collection Highlights
You'll find a stunning scale model of a East Indiaman cargo ship, poignant personal letters from sailors, and interactive displays that let you virtually navigate treacherous seas. One particularly memorable exhibit explores the grueling lives of ordinary seamen, contrasting sharply with the opulent goods they transported.
