Museum At Campbell River
About This Museum
You'd never guess this place started as a fishing lodge, but that's the perfect beginning for a museum that dives deep into the story of this coast. It feels more like exploring a beautifully crafted coastal longhouse than a stuffy institution, tucked right against the forest. Inside, you come face-to-face with a full-scale replica of a First Nations big house and can almost hear the whine of a historic sawmill. The real showstopper is the 'K'wak'waka'wakw Potlatch Collection,' which holds stunning masks and regalia that were once banned from public use.
Collection Highlights
Full-scale First Nations big house replica, historic sawmill equipment, and the profound 'K'wak'waka'wakw Potlatch Collection' of masks and ceremonial objects.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to findβjust look for it on the Island Highway heading north out of town. Honestly, give yourself at least a couple of hours; there's so much to take in.
Architecture & Building
The building is designed to echo the post-and-beam structure of a traditional Coast Salish longhouse, with soaring ceilings and massive wooden beams that make it feel part of the landscape.
