Museo Vostell Malpartida
About This Museum
It’s not every day you find a museum where the art is literally embedded in a landscape of prehistoric granite boulders. Wolf Vostell, a pioneer of the Fluxus movement, chose this raw, otherworldly terrain near Cáceres as the perfect foil for his challenging work. Inside the repurposed 18th-century wool-washing factory, the industrial grit continues, with concrete and steel sculptures that feel like extensions of the rocky chaos outside. The line between the curated gallery and the wild natural park is thrillingly blurred, making every visit a discovery.
Collection Highlights
You can't miss 'VOAEX (Journey of the Hyenas)', a decrepit Cadillac encased in concrete that seems to erupt from the earth. Outside, 'The Dead Class' features ghostly school desks arranged among the rocks, while 'Fluxus Chess' invites you to play with unconventional pieces.
Visitor Information
Wear good shoes—exploring the sprawling outdoor installations means navigating uneven paths through the boulder field. It's just a short drive from Cáceres, and the surrounding Natural Monument of Los Barruecos is worth the trip alone.
Architecture & Building
A converted historical complex known as the Lavadero de Lanas, a series of stark, rustic stone buildings that once served as a wool-washing facility, now seamlessly integrated into the dramatic granite outcrops.
