Fundació Joan Miró

About This Museum

Perched high on the leafy slopes of Montjuïc, the Fundació Joan Miró feels like a breath of fresh air, both literally and artistically. Stepping inside, you're immediately greeted by a flood of natural light that makes Miro's whimsical forms and explosive colors truly sing. It’s not just a gallery; it’s a vibrant, playful universe where his iconic moon-stars, bold lines, and imaginative creatures feel completely at home. Wandering from the airy halls out to a sun-drenched terrace, with Barcelona sprawling below, is an experience that perfectly mirrors the joyful freedom in the art itself.

Collection Highlights

You can't miss the enormous tapestry in the entrance hall or the charmingly bizarre 'Woman and Bird' fountain sculpture. The collection beautifully traces his entire career, from early more restrained works to the later pieces where his signature lyrical abstractions and almost childlike symbols fully take over.

Visitor Information

It's well worth the trip up the hill—you can easily combine it with a stroll through the surrounding park. I'd recommend going on a sunny day to make the most of those incredible terraces and courtyards.

Architecture & Building

Designed by Miro's close friend Josep Lluís Sert, the building itself is a masterpiece of rationalist architecture, all clean white lines, soaring ceilings, and clever skylights that create this wonderful dialogue between art, architecture, and the Mediterranean sky.
