Museo Paleontológico de la Laguna
About This Museum
People come to the Museo Paleontológico de la Laguna for one reason: to stand face-to-face with the giants that once roamed this very desert. And let me tell you, it does not disappoint. You walk in and are immediately greeted by the towering, complete skeleton of a Columbian Mammoth, its tusks curving majestically towards the ceiling. The entire place feels less like a stuffy museum and more like a vibrant window into Coahuila's prehistoric past, where every fossil tells a story millions of years in the making.
Collection Highlights
The undisputed star is that incredible mammoth skeleton, but don't miss the terrifyingly beautiful saber-toothed cat skull or the massive glyptodont shell that looks like an armadillo designed by a tank engineer. I was especially captivated by the local dinosaur finds, including hadrosaur bones discovered right in the region.
Visitor Information
It's brilliantly located right in the heart of Torreón's historic center on Avenida Juárez, making it a perfect stop while exploring downtown. It's compact enough to see everything without feeling rushed, but so engaging you'll probably lose track of time.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a handsome, restored early 20th-century building with a classic Mexican facade; it feels grand and historic from the outside but is all modern, clean, and well-lit inside.
