Museo de la Ballena y Ciencias del Mar
About This Museum
Tucked away in La Paz's cultural center, this place is a total love letter to the giants of the sea. I had no idea it started back in the 90s, born from a local scientist's passion for marine conservation. You walk in and are immediately surrounded by these incredible, full-sized whale skeletons hanging from the ceiling—it’s both awe-inspiring and humbling. The whole vibe is quiet and thoughtful, making you feel a real connection to the ocean just a few blocks away.
Collection Highlights
The massive, suspended skeleton of a gray whale is absolutely breathtaking, and they have an entire room dedicated to the intricate sounds whales use to communicate. Don't miss the collection of delicate whale ear bones; it's a small detail that's surprisingly fascinating.
Visitor Information
It's super easy to find right in the heart of La Paz's cultural zone. It’s a fantastic escape from the afternoon heat and a must-see if you're at all curious about what lives in the Sea of Cortez.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a simple, modern building that feels more like a clean, well-organized gallery than an old museum.
