Museo Ferroviario Municipal
About This Museum
Would you believe this whole place was almost scrapped for parts? The old Formosa train station, once the heart of our city's comings and goings, fell silent for years before the community fought to save it. Now, stepping inside is like walking right back into the golden age of rail travel in Northern Argentina. You can almost hear the hiss of steam and the chatter of passengers waiting for the night train to Buenos Aires.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the massive English-built steam locomotive, a real metal giant parked right where the tracks used to be. Up close, you'll find everything from fragile porcelain dinnerware used in the dining cars to heavy, brass-ticket punches that conductors wielded for decades.
Visitor Information
It's tucked away at San Martín 668—just look for the old red brick station building. Pop in; it's a wonderful way to spend an afternoon, especially if you can get one of the old railway workers to share a story or two.
Architecture & Building
It's a classic, handsome British-style railway station built from deep red brick, with a long, welcoming porch out front that once sheltered travelers from the Formosan sun and rain.
