Museo dell'Arte del Cappello
About This Museum
Tucked away in the charming town of Ghiffa, this place is a total gem dedicated entirely to the art of hat-making. It's not your typical museum; it feels more like stepping into a master hatter's workshop where every piece has a story. You'll find everything from elegant, wide-brimmed sun hats that look ready for a day at the races to intricate, almost architectural fascinators. The passion for this craft is palpable in every carefully displayed creation.
Collection Highlights
The collection is incredible—think delicate veiled cocktail hats from the 1950s, sturdy felt fedoras shaped by hand, and even some of the actual wooden blocks and tools used to form them. I was completely mesmerized by a display showing the step-by-step process of making a single Borsalino.
Visitor Information
It's small and intimate, so you can easily see everything in an hour without feeling rushed. The staff are wonderfully knowledgeable—don't be shy about asking questions! It’s the perfect stop to break up a drive around Lake Maggiore.
Architecture & Building
Housed in what feels like a converted historic villa or workshop right on the main corso, it has a lovely, unpretentious charm that fits its subject perfectly.
