Museo della Seta di Como
About This Museum
People come to Como for the lake, but they stay for the silk. That's what I've always said, and it's why so many find their way to our Museo della Seta. They want to understand the thread—both literal and historical—that connects this city to its global reputation for exquisite textiles. Inside, you'll discover it's not just about beautiful fabric; it's a story of chemistry, engineering, and the hands that worked the looms. You leave realizing that silk isn't just something Como made; it's what made Como.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the room with the massive, clattering Jacquard looms from the 19th century—you can almost hear the factory floor. Then there are the delicate sample books with thousands of swatches and the surprising display on dyeing, where vibrant colors were coaxed from natural ingredients.
Visitor Information
We're tucked away on Via Castelnuovo, a short walk from the city center. It's best to check opening times online before you come, as they can change with the season.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a former textile school, the building itself is a piece of industrial history—a no-nonsense, elegant structure built for purpose, not for show.
