About This Museum

So, we stumbled upon this incredible family-run museum just outside the salt pans of Trapani. It's set inside a weathered 17th-century windmill that they actually used to use for grinding salt! The guided tour was fantasticβ€”the owner himself walked us through the whole fascinating, gritty process of how sea salt was harvested back in the day. It felt less like a museum and more like stepping directly into the past.

Collection Highlights

You get to see all the original tools, from wooden rakes to terracotta tiles used for drying, and massive piles of the pure white salt itself. The stories about the 'salinai' (the salt workers) and their tough lives are what really bring it all to life.

Visitor Information

Definitely book ahead for a tour as it's a small, personal operation. It's a bit off the beaten path on Via Chiusa in Nubia, but completely worth the trip for a unique slice of Sicilian history.

Architecture & Building

A charming, rustic stone windmill with a distinctive conical roof, typical of the old mills that once dotted this coastline.
