Museo de Prehistoria de Valencia
About This Museum
You won't believe what's tucked away in this beautiful old building—it holds evidence of human life here dating back over 200,000 years. The museum takes you on a journey from the very first stone tools used by Neanderthals right up to the Romans who left their mark on the region. I was completely captivated by the intricate Iberian pottery and those famous warrior statues, the 'Damitas,' which feel so full of personality. It’s incredible to stand in front of objects that were held by people millennia ago, all found right under our feet in Valencia.
Collection Highlights
Look for the stunning Iberian votive figures, especially the Lady of Guardamar, and the vivid Roman mosaics that still feel so vibrant. The collection of prehistoric cave art reproductions is also a must-see.
Visitor Information
It's in this gorgeous cultural center called La Beneficencia, super central and easy to get to. Best part? Entry is free on weekends, which is perfect for a spontaneous visit.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a former charity hospice from the 19th century, it's a grand example of Valencian architecture with beautiful courtyards, arched walkways, and colorful tile work that's almost as impressive as the artifacts inside.
