Museo de Historia de Valencia
About This Museum
You'd never guess that one of Valencia's most fascinating museums is hidden in a place that once held its water. The Museo de Historia de Valencia is tucked inside a massive, forgotten 19th-century underground reservoir, a space that feels more like a secret subterranean city than a museum. Walking through its vast, arched brick halls is an experience in itself, where the cool air and echoes seem to whisper stories from the past. It brilliantly traces the city's entire timeline, from its Roman founding as 'Valentia' right up to the modern Fallas festival, making the city's 2000-year history feel immediate and alive.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the incredibly well-preserved Roman mosaic floors and the scale model of 19th-century Valencia. The collection gets wonderfully personal too, with displays of vintage toys, old cinema projectors, and even historic Fallas ninot figures that bring everyday life through the ages into sharp focus.
Visitor Information
It's located just outside the main tourist circuit in Mislata, but it's an easy tram or bus ride from the city center. The entrance fee is only a couple of euros, making it one of the best-value secrets in town.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is the star—a stunning example of 19th-century industrial brickwork with soaring vaulted ceilings and a forest of pillars, all originally built as a public water reservoir.
