Museo de Ciencias Naturales de Arnedo Santiago Jiménez
About This Museum
Tucked away on the pleasant Paseo de la Constitución in Arnedo, this isn't your typical big-city museum. It feels more like stepping into the private cabinet of curiosities of Santiago Jiménez, packed to the rafters with fascinating finds. You'll wander past towering dinosaur skeletons and then, just a few steps away, get lost in cases glittering with minerals from the local Riojan soil. The sheer density of specimens makes every corner a new discovery.
Collection Highlights
The dinosaur fossils are the real show-stoppers, but don't miss the incredibly detailed bird and mammal dioramas that look frozen in time. I was especially captivated by the vast collection of seashells and insects, all meticulously arranged.
Visitor Information
It's located right by the Nuevo Cinema, so it's easy to find. Given its local charm, it's best to check their opening hours online before you go as they might be a bit more relaxed than a major institution.
Architecture & Building
Housed in a converted cinema on a main boulevard, it has that unassuming, functional town building look from the outside which makes the treasures inside all the more surprising.
