Musée De Kent
About This Museum
You'd never guess that one of Atlantic Canada's most charming little museums is tucked away in a former convent in Bouctouche. I was completely disarmed by its warm, unpretentious atmosphere the moment I stepped inside. It feels less like a formal institution and more like a local family invited you over to see their most treasured heirlooms. The sheer variety of artifacts, from Mi'kmaq tools to Victorian gowns, tells a sprawling story of the Kent County region that's both intimate and grand.
Collection Highlights
I was particularly captivated by the intricate Quilt of the Acadian Flag, a stunning textile piece with incredible history. Another standout is the massive collection of glass photographic plates offering a ghostly, beautiful glimpse into 19th-century life. Don't miss the old general store setup—it’s so authentic you can almost smell the penny candy.
Visitor Information
It's located right at 150 Chem. du Couvent, easy to find if you're exploring the Bouctouche area. Just be sure to check their hours online before you go, as they can be seasonal.
Architecture & Building
The building itself is a beautiful and stately former convent, classic for the region with its red brick facade, tall windows, and a quiet, dignified presence that feels instantly historic.
