About This Museum
People come to MUSA not for dusty artifacts behind glass, but to chase a whisper of something magical beneath the Caribbean waves. It's an entire modern art gallery, silent and stunning, laid out on the seafloor between Cancún and Isla Mujeres. You'll drift over a crowd of over 500 life-sized figures, known as 'The Silent Evolution,' their still forms now crusted with coral and visited by schools of glittering fish. The whole place feels like a secret world, part art, part artificial reef, that changes with every passing tide.
Collection Highlights
The main event is 'The Silent Evolution,' a haunting crowd of figures by Jason deCaires Taylor. Other pieces include a vintage Volkswagen Beetle and a house called 'The Bank of Time,' all slowly being reclaimed by the ocean.
Visitor Information
You can see it from above on a glass-bottom boat tour, but to really get it, you need to get wet. Snorkeling lets you float right above the sculptures, while scuba divers can swim among them, close enough to watch the new coral growth.
Architecture & Building
There's no building at all—the 'museum' is the seafloor itself, with the sculptures made from specialized pH-neutral cement designed to promote marine life.
