MR21 - Digital cathedral

About This Museum

Now, what makes the MR21 truly special isn't just that it's a history museum, but that it's set up in the old St. George's Anglican Church—a proper stone building from another time. We've taken this beautiful, hallowed space and filled it with the hum of servers and the glow of digital art; it’s a place where our local past quietly converses with the future. You'll find exhibits that trace the arc of communication, from old rotary phones and radio tubes to immersive digital installations that light up the old nave. It’s a unique little spot right here on St. George Street that makes you think about how far we've come.

Collection Highlights

The heart of the collection is a fascinating mix: vintage switchboards from the old Moncton telephone exchange sit not far from interactive data sculptures. One of my favorite pieces is 'Digital Stained Glass,' a projection that uses real-time data to create ever-changing patterns in the very windows where saints once stood.

Visitor Information

Come by any afternoon—it's surprisingly peaceful. Don't be shy about asking the folks at the door for the story behind the building's transformation; they love to share. And keep an eye on their events calendar; they host live electronic music nights where the acoustics in that stone vault are just incredible.

Architecture & Building

It's housed in a handsome, early 20th-century Gothic Revival church built from local sandstone, complete with a classic steeple. Inside, they've kept the soaring arched ceilings and much of the original character, creating a stunning contrast with all the modern tech.
