About This Museum
People come here to understand a pivotal, yet often overlooked, chapter of the North African campaign in WWII. You can walk through the actual trenches and gaze out over the dusty landscape, imagining the fierce battles that took place right where you're standing. The museum itself feels unassuming, but inside it's packed with maps, uniforms, and personal artifacts that tell incredibly human stories of the soldiers who fought here. It’s far from a glamorous tourist spot, which is precisely what makes it feel so authentic and impactful.
Collection Highlights
The detailed dioramas explaining the Allied breakthrough are fantastic for visualizing the battle, and seeing the weathered helmets and canteens used by troops from both sides is surprisingly moving.
Visitor Information
It's located right on the P1 highway near Mareth—you can't miss the old artillery pieces out front. It's a good idea to bring water as it can get very hot.
Architecture & Building
The building is a simple, low-slung concrete structure that looks almost like a bunker itself, blending practically into its arid surroundings.
