About This Museum
You'd never guess it, but this isn't just a museum—it's an entire village they picked up and moved here, piece by historic piece. Wandering the dirt paths between these old wooden houses, you feel like you've stepped back a century or two in the Udmurt countryside. It’s not about looking at artifacts behind glass; it’s about peeking into a windmill that still turns and smelling the pine logs of a traditional homestead. The place has this incredibly peaceful, almost forgotten, atmosphere that completely pulls you in.
Collection Highlights
The star of the show is definitely the 19th-century wooden mosque, a beautiful and rare sight. You can also explore a functioning water mill, several peasant estates (izbas) filled with everyday objects, and see how blacksmiths and potters used to work their magic.
Visitor Information
It's located just outside Izhevsk, making for a perfect half-day escape from the city. Wear comfy shoes because you'll be doing a lot of walking on unpaved paths between the buildings!
Architecture & Building
Imagine classic Russian log cabin architecture (izbas) but with distinct Udmurt decorative touches, all made from heavy timber with intricate window frames and steeply pitched roofs.
