Lougheed House National & Provincial Historic Site
About This Museum
Stepping onto the grounds of the Lougheed House feels like walking right into Calgary's boom years. This grand sandstone mansion, built in 1891, was the social and political hub for Senator James Lougheed's family and gives you a tangible sense of prairie ambition. You can almost hear the rustle of silk gowns on the original oak staircase while exploring rooms filled with personal artifacts and stories. The restored interior, from the lavish drawing rooms to the more private family spaces, creates an incredibly intimate connection to the past.
Collection Highlights
Don't miss the original family portraiture and the fascinating exhibit on the household staff who were the true engine of the home. The meticulous restoration of the period wallpapers and textiles is a highlight in itself.
