Linneanum
About This Museum
It’s not every day you find a neoclassical temple where the primary residents are cacti and banana trees. The Linneanum stands with a quiet, almost severe grace, its pale stone columns and symmetrical lines belying the wild, living world it contains. Stepping inside is a sudden, welcome shock—a wave of humid warmth and the scent of damp earth and blossoms. Here, under a high, arched glass roof, tropical leaves unfurl to impossible sizes beside the stoic, spiny forms of desert dwellers.
Collection Highlights
Look for the towering palms that seem to brush the ceiling and the sprawling cacti collection, where delicate flowers can unexpectedly bloom from the most rugged, arid-looking plants.
