You'd never guess it from the elegant white facade, but the Larco Museum holds one of the world's most extensive collections of pre-Columbian erotic pottery. It all lives inside an 18th-century vice-royal mansion, built right over a seventh-century pyramid. Wandering through its airy galleries feels like stepping into a treasure chest, with room after room filled with exquisite gold and silver from ancient Peruvian lords. The sheer volume is staggering—some 45,000 pieces are carefully cataloged here, telling countless stories of cultures long past.
Collection Highlights
Beyond the famous erotic gallery that always draws a chuckle, you'll find breathtaking textiles and the complete burial regalia of a Moche nobleman, his gold nose ornament and ear spools still gleaming after more than a thousand years.
